NCMC TO ADVISE U.S. ON INTERNATIONAL FISHERIES
NOAA Fisheries director William Hogarth has appointed National Coalition for Marine Conservation president Ken Hinman to serve as an advisor to the U.S. delegation to ICCAT. The International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas, which meets in New Orleans November 15-21, develops management measures for 25 nations fishing for tunas, billfish and swordfish throughout the Atlantic Ocean. Hinman will represent NCMC at fall advisory committee meetings September 9-10 and October 21-22 and help the U.S. prepare its priorities and strategies for getting international cooperation to conserve such overfished species as white and blue marlin, bluefin and northern albacore tuna, and protect the ongoing recovery of swordfish.
